Job Description Summary The University of La Verne, College of
Arts and Sciences, Department of Art, Photography, and Art History
invites applications for Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure
track) of Visual Arts with an appointment to begin fall of 2026.
Rank commensurate with professional status and teaching experience.

thrive. We seek an experienced educator and artist capable of
teaching coursework centered on studio practice while also
addressing the conceptual dimensions of visual art and its
relevance to contemporary professional practice. The successful
candidate will have a strong professional record, characterized by
a forward-thinking portfolio of work and a critical perspective on
the trajectory of contemporary visual art. The department welcomes
candidates whose teaching and professional practice centers on
bodies of knowledge that emerge from historically underrepresented,
marginalized, and/or underserved communities. Applicants must be
capable of critically implementing new curricular offerings in
conceptual, and/or narrative-based approaches to image-making. We
are seeking an artist with an eye on emerging technologies such as
Artificial Intelligences (AI) and an understanding of the various
factors affecting contemporary visual art. Please submit the

Curriculum Vitae, including a record of teaching and professional
activity. 3.) A 1-2 page teaching philosophy that articulates your
approach to inclusive pedagogy 4.) Two Syllabi that demonstrate an
inclusive approach to teaching Illustration to foster student
intellectual and creative growth. 5.) Professional Portfolio* :
Please provide a professional portfolio of no more than 20 images
formatted into a single Adobe PDF . Image file size should be
consistent, medium to high resolution is recommended (at least 1024
pixels wide). Video/audio: If you would like to include sound or
video media, upload media to a sharing platform that allows content
to be viewed using a web link. Please copy that link into your PDF
, providing contextual information as appropriate. Video/audio
files of any length can be submitted, but it may be beneficial to
edit/limit submissions to 5 minutes unless there is a compelling
reason to go beyond that limit. 6.) Student work:* Please provide a
student work portfolio of no more than 20 images formatted into a
single Adobe PDF . Portfolio of images of student work (20 images
maximum, in one PDF , images should be submitted in slideshow
format and include an image description list and contextualizing
captions). See directions above for including time-based work.
*Please add document submissions for numbers 5 and 6 as “Sample
Materials”. Minimum Qualifications MFA or its equivalent in visual
art, or an equivalent combination of applicable academic,
professional, and community-based experience. Compassionate and
skillful educator, with demonstrated exceptional teaching ability
and collegial spirit of collaboration. Insightful critical thinking
and the ability to comfortably engage students in discourse on the
complexities and challenges of contemporary art. Flexibility in
teaching a range of studio courses, which may include Painting,
Drawing, Sculpture, Installation Art, Design, Digital Media, as
well as advanced electives that relate to one or more art
sub-genres. Ability and willingness to step into leadership roles
as needed by the department and college, including service on
university, college-wide committees and department service.
Preferred Qualifications At least 2 years of full-time or 8
semesters part-time experience teaching at the college-level.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering equitable learning
environments where a diverse student body can thrive, using
inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible pedagogies to
support critical engagement with art. Significant professional
experience and an active art practice with an ongoing record of
achievement characterized by a personal, distinctive artistic
vision. Candidates’ expertise may diverge from traditional market
areas, and a trajectory of involvement with emerging technologies
and markets is desired. A critical and constructive perspective on
artificial intelligences-cultivated alongside an active studio
practice-is highly valued. Applications may not be edited once they
